City of London Moves to Drop Century-Old Ban on Logos Atop Office Towers

A planning rule under review

The City of London Corporation is considering an end to a long-standing rule that keeps corporate logos off the tops of office buildings in the Square Mile, reports said on September 10, 2026.

Banks and professional-services firms already brand ground-floor frontage. Roof-level signs are common in other financial districts and have been restricted in the City.

Why landlords want the change

Developers argue visible naming rights help let towers and compete with Canary Wharf and overseas centres. Conservation groups typically want limits on lighting and skyline clutter.

A final policy text has not been adopted. The corporation is the planning authority for the Square Mile.
